Maker’s Mark of Hannam & Crouch

This is a beautiful example of an early 19th century footed tray. The design is extremely elegant with a fine gardrooned border with two handles and four feet and with a magnificent original engraved family crest to the centre. This tray is made to the very highest quality and whilst simple in design it is an extremely fine piece.

The tray weighs roughly 121oz of silver which shows the level of quality. This tray was made by the specialist tray makers Hannam & Crouch. Thomas Hannam completed his apprenticeship to John Café in 1761 and went into partnership with John Crouch in 1765. The firm was known
particularly as makers of fine quality trays, salvers and waiters such as in this case. Overall this is a very practical and versatile piece as it can be both used as a stationary salver with items on top of it on a sideboard for example or as a normal serving tray.
