A Magnificent Set of Twelve George III Silver Dinner Plates

Made in London, 1810

Maker’s Mark of William Stroud

Diameter: 25.5cm (10in)

Total Weight: 264oz (8,210 gr)

Approximately 22oz per plate

Almost Certainly bearing the crest of William Harbord, 2nd Baron Suffield who succeeded his father as Baron Suffield in February 1810.

This is a very fine set of twelve George III Silver dinner plates. They are all fully hallmarked for London 1810 and were made William Stroud. These plates are really made to the highest standard and are therefore comparable in many ways to those made by similar silversmiths such as Paul Storr.

These plates have an incredible gauge to them weighing on average 22oz which is remarkable for dinner plates of this period. The border of the plates is a traditional gadrooning which has remained in beautiful condition with a lovely original crest engraved on each plate.

Furthermore each dinner plate has its original scratch weight and number engraved on the underside alongside the hallmarks which is lovely to see. Each dinner plate has remained in wonderful original condition with lovely patina and colour.
