Charles and George Fox
A Victorian claret jug of elegant, elongated form, the frosted glass body finely engraved with stylised foliate decoration. The neck is mounted with a gilt collar, engraved with a crest within a shaped cartouche, above a band of repeating detail.
The mount extends into a well-shaped handle and a hinged cover with a loop finial, the gilt surface providing a strong contrast to the subdued tone of the glass. The base is similarly finished with a gilt mount, neatly framing the body.
Well balanced in both proportion and decoration, it is a practical serving piece and a representative example of late 19th century tableware.
