William Kerr Reid
Total Weight: 67 oz. 10 dwt. (2,109gr)
This impressive pair of covered sauce tureens, made in London in 1829 by William Kerr Reid, exemplifies the richness and craftsmanship of late Regency silver. Substantial in scale, they combine bold sculptural form with naturalistic ornament inspired by the Rococo Revival style.
The deeply lobed and melon-fluted bodies are matched by similarly fluted domed covers, creating a harmonious design enhanced by the play of light across the polished silver surfaces. Each cover is crowned with an intertwined branch handle emerging from a floral mount, while scrolling foliage and shell motifs enrich the rims and decoration throughout.
